Below are examples of opportunities IC 21 provides for students and teachers to become involved in global issues. More detailed information about past and present projects can be found on our Newsletters page.

For ten years, IC 21 has co-sponsored this conference at UN Headquarters in New York. Scheduled on or around Human Rights Day (December 10), the conference focuses on a different human rights theme each year. For more information visit our UNSCHR page or the UN Cyberschoolbus webpage.
The Teton County Model UN (TCMUN) conference is open to students from around the Northern Rockies. Since 2006, TCMUN has taken place annually in Jackson, WY. It is organized by IC 21 with support from local teachers from Jackson Hole Community School, Jackson Hole High School and Journeys School. For more information, visit our TCMUN hyperlink.
IC 21 organizes a variety of presentations for local students and community members. Recent presentation topics have ranged from personal accounts on climate change in Antarctica to genocide in Africa, and from scholarly lectures on US foreign policy to the current situation in the Middle East. For more information on recent speakers and their topics, please see our Speaker Series page. You can also view a full list of past events at: http://ic21.org/pastevents.
IC 21 organizes summer study trips to give students first hand experience in dealing with current priority themes such as sustainability or World Heritage Education. An example is the 2-week trip in June 2007 to Ecuador. Students lived with local families in Yunguilla, a cloud forest village that is dedicated to sustainable development, and visited World Heritage sites such as Old Quito and the Galapagos. To learn more about the Ecuador trip, please see our Summer '07 Newsletter or click on "Education in Yunguilla" to view a student documentary about the educational system in rural Ecuador.
Plans for future study trips are under way, so check back soon!
