Ambassador Pickering served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and Ambassador to Russia, India, The United Nations, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria and Jordan. Since retiring from the Department of State in 2000 with the rank of Career Ambassador, he worked at Boeing as Senior Vice President for International Relations and is currently Vice Chair of Hills & Company, an international consulting firm that advises on global investment, trade and risk assessment. He also chaired the Benghazi Review Commission in 2012.
