“You are expected to know, understand, explain and in some cases expected to persuade countries of U.S. foreign policy and U.S. foreign policy interests,” he said. “You’re paid to report back on the thinking, ideas, cultures and tendencies of foreign countries. … Most importantly, you bridge these two by being a source to the U.S. government on when they need to change, revise, update or inform its foreign policy so U.S. interests can be represented better.”
