About IC 21

2002 UNSHCRWhat We Do

InterConnections 21 was founded in 1997 in Wilson, WY.

Our mission is to help US schools and communities learn about critical world concerns and take action. We give students and teachers opportunities to "think globally and act locally". Our current program focuses on engaging high school students in:

  • Promotion of human rights, peace and democracy
  • Teaching about the United Nations system and global issues
  • Sustainability Education and preservation of World Heritage Sites

UN Day PhotoHow We Work and Why

Our work is based on two beliefs: 1) learning is most effective when it is practical and experiential; and 2) active participation in global issues can enrich a person's sense of efficacy in an increasingly complex world. We partner with other organizations to stretch our resources, avoid duplication of efforts, and model cooperation and synergy.

Organizations we have collaborated with include: UNESCO; UN Department of Public Information; UNICEF; UN Association of the USA; UN International School; The Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education in New York; the Carol Baur Foundation in Mexico City; Global Education Motivators in Philadelphia; and in Jackson, WY: the Latino Resource Center, the Jackson Hole Film Institute, and Jackson Community Recycling.

TetonsWhere We Work

Our hub is in Wilson, Wyoming; we have consultant staff in Montana and New York and rely heavily on a core of volunteer teachers and parents to connect with co-workers in the US and around the world. Through these connections, we've created a network of schools around the US that participate in IC 21 activities.
