December 1-3, 2010
A delgation of 6 WY students gathered with over 250 other students from around the US and Canada for the UN Student Conference on Human Rights (UNSCHR) in New York City, December 1-3, 2010. Students met in the ECOSOC and General Assembly Halls to discuss the Rights of the Child. During the first day of the conference Jackson Hole HS senior Sarah Ross presented on the Discrimination of Immigrant and Migrant Children. Jackson Hole HS junior Hunter Collins and Big Piney HS junior Maria Garcia presented on Gender-Based Discrimination. The following two days, students created recommendations--feasible projects and ideas that the students might implement in their own communities to think globally and act locally. These projects and ideas were then presented to a panel of experts for review. The students in New York also interacted via video-conference with students in France and Mexico.
